Cath's Scars

As expected, I cannot move. If that woman didn’t look at me the way my oldest sister used to. I might have been able to focus on recovering faster. Instinctually, I clung to Lyeh as if she was one of the sisters that watched over and fed me. Embarrassingly enough, I went as far as staying by her side at night. I got a deeper sleep than I have in years.

For the second time in four days. I have failed to replenish my mana. Tapping the stone Lyeh gave me is not enough. That first day caught me off guard. I never realized how much mana I use in a day. Nor did I realize how much I consumed from outside sources. Living in a world devoid of mana is like having no air to breathe.

Still, I should have expected to be in this shape. Regardless of using all my mana, I fought against a full powered Lyeh. I didn’t stand a chance, but I like to think it was a worthwhile match for the two of us. I could have drawn more mana from my mana stone to compensate, but it hasn’t even been a week. I don’t want to deplete it in only a few days. That stone is supposed to last the entire month.

“Good morning, Madam Inanna. Everyone is still asleep.” Nora’s voice alerts me as to who has entered our shared room.

“You are already taking well to your training I see.” Lyeh’s grandmother, Inanna, answers Nora with praise.

That woman, Inanna, is oddly scary. I can tell she is nowhere near as strong as my mother and father were. And yet, her aura is just as fierce. While not exactly the same as that old god, waiting for death in the hidden basement of the dungeon that took my mother from me. Both Inanna and that dying god have an ancient mysterious air about them that screams danger.

“Lady Nyarla said the first step in training was to change your mindset. I have already devoted my entire being to my saviors. It was simple to adjust where I placed my focus.” Nora continued, her voice filled with a determination that was not there back in the Academy.

“Hmm, Mimir was right it seems. Not that I doubted it. It is only recently that its predictions have become difficult to believe. My father truly was a genius outside of time to have fathomed her long before she could be completed.” Inanna says, the resignation in her voice is one I am familiar with.

“I am sorry Madam, I don’t understand what you mean.” Nora says, her confidence already failing.

Nora often reminds me of my mother. She puts on a brave and strong face, but is easy to crumble. Especially when faced with the unexpected. However, unlike my mother, Nora is not the leader of our group. She might shine as a rear line support, not the spearhead. As such, I feel I can more easily rely on her for simple things, and Lyeh for others.
